NTI - Virtual Learning Re-Opening Plan

NTI Learning Environment Description

Anderson County Schools will begin virtual learning on Tuesday, September 8, 2020

  • The model will be used if in-person instruction has to halt due to inclement weather, quarantine, or other health/safety reasons. 

  • Students would complete classes at home virtually taught by a classroom teacher

  • Students would be expected to make daily progress.

  • Support will be given by EBW teachers.  



  • Engage in class related activities and complete assignments daily. 

  • Attend virtual sessions as determined by your teachers.

  • Submit assignments by deadlines.

  • Attend virtual office hours as needed. 

  • Reach out to your teachers when you’re having trouble and need assistance. 


  • Assist students as needed.

  • Encourage daily work completion and submission.

  • Contact teachers on behalf of your student and/or encourage students to make contact with teachers for assistance.


  • Present lessons in a virtual format. This may be done via pre-recorded video, Google Meet, or other means determined by the teacher. 

  • Communicate with students and families regularly. 

  • Offer set times for answering questions and assisting students.

  • Respond to emails and phone calls during the scheduled day (8:00am to 3:30pm).

  • Provide feedback and update grades weekly

Virtual Learning - Daily Schedule

Each grade level and teacher will create a daily schedule that students may follow to complete assigned work.  Lesson recordings, assignments and activities will be accessible on Google Classroom outside scheduled time to allow flexibility for family schedules.  All virtual learning will be internet-based.  We will not be providing paper packets during virtual learning.  We are excited about our learning platforms that have been purchased and created for our students.  

Emma B. Ward Elementary School  is creating a virtual learning Google Site to access your child’s Google Classroom, resources and tutorials.  It will be a one-stop shop for families for all their virtual learning needs.  The link will be shared soon!


  • Students will receive grades for participation in virtual classes, as well as for accuracy and completion of assignments.

  • Grades will carry over to in person classes when those begin. 

  • Assessments will be given as needed and will also count toward overall grades. 

  • All work must be completed and submitted based on set deadlines. Any late work must be completed within two weeks of being assigned or it will not be accepted.

Small Group Instruction

  • Grade level teams will contact their families to arrange for small group instruction opportunities.

  • Students will meet in small groups with homeroom teachers, special education teachers or reading/math intervention teachers to receive individualized support.

Individual Learning Center

  • The EBW library will be open by appointment Monday-Thursday  for students to come and access the internet. Students should bring their assigned chromebook or use a school device.  

  • You MUST contact school at 839-4236 to make an appointment.  

  • Students will have designated spaces to work allowing for social distancing. 

  • All students and visitors will have temperatures checked upon entry and will be expected to wear a mask while in the building.

  • Parents/guardians will accompany students inside the building and stay with their child during facility use.  Siblings may not accompany students in the learning center.   Staff will be on site to supervise.

Chromebook Distribution - Beep and Greet Drive Thru Open House!

Where a traditional open house is not possible this year, we would like to invite you to our drive thru “Beep & Greet” Open House.  Please plan to drive through the Emma B. Ward campus (map below) on the dates listed below to wave at teachers and staff and pick up virtual learning materials.  Please display your child’s name and grade level in your car window for identification.  

  • 1st Grade:  Open house appointments scheduled by classroom teacher on Sept. 1st & 2nd

  • Grades 2nd & 3rd:   Tuesday, September 1st ~ 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM & 4:00PM - 6:00PM

  • Grades 4th & 5th:  Wednesday, September 2nd ~ 9:00 AM - 11:00AM & 4:00PM - 6:00PM

  • Make Up Day:  Thursday, September 3rd  ~ 3:00PM - 5:00PM

Chromebooks are available for use during virtual learning.  If you would like to check out a chromebook please request one by completing the Chromebook Request below.  A signed checkout agreement is required at chromebook distribution.  Devices will be distributed during our drive thru “Beep & Greet”.

Notice - House Bill 11: Tobacco Free Schools

HB 11 is a smoke free law passed this year that includes all school facilities and grounds.  No one, including parents, school employees, visitors or students are permitted to use tobacco products, alternative nicotine or vapor products on grounds at any time. This was added into Anderson County Schools Policy and Procedures at the July 9th special called board meeting and goes into effect for the 2019-2020 school year.  

The interpretation of HB 11 by Anderson County Schools legal council is that this includes:

  • Personal vehicles that are on school grounds 

  • District owned vehicles 

  • Outdoor Athletic Facilities and all athletic events

  • Evening or weekend activities

  • Rented district facilities (example - Recreation league practices or games held on school grounds

The 2016 Unbridled Learning state accountability results were released this week, and Emma B Ward Elementary received the prestigious “School of Distinction” status. The state’s Unbridled Learning model evaluates schools and districts using data from the K-PREP assessment.

The Anderson County Board of Education is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge. Acceptance and participation requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, age or disability.
