Artist in Residency
Robert B. Turner Welcomes Local Artist Susan Burge
Hello!  My Name is Tracey Birdwhistell and I teach Art at Robert B. Turner Elementary.  This is my tenth year teaching.  I have been very blessed to have worked with some fabulous students thus far in my career.  I received my education from the University of Memphis, and I have my masters and Rank one awarded by the State of Kentucky.  I am a mother of four beautiful lively girls, , and I have a wonderful husband. I also am a cat lover and have 3 cats!!  I feel truly blessed to say that I have such a wonderful family and job!!

In my Art class we go in depth to explore the elements of art: line, shape, color, value, space, texture, and form.  We also study the principles of design : balance, emphasis, pattern, and contrast.  Students can pick out different types of art and the style as well.  Throughout the year we study various artists from different time periods and create our own interpretations of the artwork . We look at how art has been a part of different cultures throughout history and serves in a variety of purposes.  Students create realistic, abstract and nonobjective types of artwork.  Most of all students, as well as teacher, have a blast exploring and creating unique pieces of artwork!!
