No Matter the Weather, Anderson County Teachers and Students Stick Together
LAWRENCEBURG, Ky-- As the winter weather continues to impact our area, many of us recall fond childhood memories of snow days off of school spent lazing about our homes, sporadically going outside to play in the snow. When we would return to school, our teachers would spend time refreshing our memories on our most recent lessons before continuing on to new content. We all loved those snow days, but what we did not enjoy were the warm summer days tacked on to the end of the school year that had to be used as make-up days. The warm breeze wafting through the classroom window seemed to call louder than the snow ever did.

Message from Superintendent Mitchell - Updated Guidance from CDC and KDHP
As you know, the CDC and Public Health released new Covid-19 guidance for schools this week.  I've been in consultation with our local Health Department, KDE and Cumberland Family Medical.  The Education Commissioner also held a webex for superintendents yesterday that included consultation with Dr. Connie White.  The new guidance has several changes and we have updated the Test to Stay document, put together a summary of changes document and provided the attachments below.

New Principal Announcement
SECC Families,

As SECC SBDM council members, we are excited to announce Mrs. Robin Ratliff as the next principal of our school. Mrs. Ratliff comes to us from Robert B. Turner Elementary as the Reading Interventionist. Mrs. Ratliff has served in Anderson County Schools for 18 years in a variety of positions including Kindergarten Teacher, Instructional Coach, and Reading Interventionist.

Mrs. Ratliff is an energetic and outgoing leader that is passionate about early childhood education. We are confident that Mrs. Ratliff will continue to lead our school to success as we lay the educational foundation for our young learners.

Please join us for a reception to welcome Mrs. Robin Ratliff as our next principal on Tuesday, December 7th from 4:30-5:30.

Thank you for your continued support and input into this very important process.

Kentucky Academic Standards Family Guides
Strong partnerships between family and school are more important now than ever, and conferences are a great time to share the “Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) Family Guides” and “A Family’s Guide to Understanding Student Assessment.”

The “KAS Family Guides” were developed to help families familiarize themselves with the concepts of each grade level’s standards and include suggestions for how families can reinforce standards content at home. Each guide contains a standards overview for reading and writing, mathematics, science and social studies. Guides are available for grades K-8 and high school and even come in Spanish for Spanish-speaking families.

“A Family’s Guide to Understanding Student Assessment” was made to help families understand how assessment can support student learning. The guide includes information about formative, diagnostic, interim and summative assessment, and gives teachers and families common language to use when discussing student assessment.
