Anderson County Schools

Information Regarding Cancellation, Delays, and Early Dismissal

Winter weather conditions sometimes prompt Anderson County Schools to alter routines or schedules in the district. Student and staff safety is a top priority, so on snowy or icy days, a team of district employees begins assessing road conditions as early as 3:45 a.m. School leaders - in consultation with the National Weather Service and Anderson County Emergency Management Director, Bart Powell - consider road safety, outdoor temperatures and the weather forecast in order to make a decision by 5:45 a.m.

Whenever roads are unsafe for travel, there are four choices:

  • NTI Virtual Learning Day

  • Cancel school- Snow Day

  • Delay the start of school (1 or 2 hour)

  • Dismiss school early

Please remember that road conditions vary throughout the community. Roads on one end of the county might be clear while other areas are still treacherous. These decisions are based on ensuring safety for all students.

If an NTI day is utilized:

  • Students and Staff will complete school virtually on a regular schedule (8:00am- 3:00pm) during the day and the school calendar will not be amended.

  • Students will receive specific instructions for NTI learning activities from school.

  • ILT labs may be open or scheduled as needed. Check with each school for hours and availability.

  • Information will be posted on ACSchools.net as well as shared via FacebookTwitter, and through the local media. (Note: District One Call is not used for early morning announcements - One Text may be used but please understand that delivery may be delayed due to call/text volume, cell service or other factors. )

  • Afternoon and evening activities may be canceled.

If school is canceled:

  • Schools will not be open for regular business and the school calendar may be amended.

  • Information will be posted on ACSchools.net as well as shared via FacebookTwitter, and through the local media. (Note: District One Call is not used for early morning announcements - One Text may be used but please understand that delivery may be delayed due to call/text volume, cell service or other factors. )

  • Childcare is available for all 1st - 5th grade Anderson County students. Child Care Information

  • Afternoon and evening activities may be canceled.

If school is delayed:

  • All schools start either one or two hours later than normal.

  • Information will be posted on ACSchools.net as well as shared via FacebookTwitter, and through the local media. (Note: District One Call is not used for early morning announcements - One Text may be used but please understand that delivery may be delayed due to call/text volume, cell service or other factors.)

  • Buses run their regular routes -- just one or two hours later than usual.

  • School dismissal times stay the same, and afternoon and evening activities continue as usual.

  • Decisions about making up the time missed will be made on a case-by-case basis in accordance with state guidelines.

If schools dismiss early:

  • The decision will be made as early as possible to allow families time to make arrangements.

  • Early dismissal notification will be shared through normal channels as well as One Call Now and One Text phone notifications.

  • Schools will rely on information provided by parents on the early dismissal information sheet completed at the beginning of the school year. It is important that the information provided remains accurate and up to date. If that information is not up to date, you may contact the school to give current information.

  • Students will be supervised until the last child is picked up.

  • Children in the morning preschool session may be picked up by their families. If not picked up, they will be brought home by bus along with other students from the elementary schools.

  • Bus riders will arrive at their regular stops earlier, according to the dismissal time.

  • The afternoon preschool session as well as other after-school and evening activities may be canceled.

  • Decisions about making up the time missed will be made on a case-by-case basis in accordance with state guidelines.
