ACSchools Receives Grant

This past fall, members of the Anderson County Department of Public Safety along with Anderson County School representatives completed safety audits at each school and created a list of prioritized improvements as part of the district’s Safe Campus Program. To help with the cost of implementing these security upgrades, Anderson County Schools applied for the Bluegrass Pipeline Community Grant. A $2,500 award was presented to Anderson County Schools on April 1, 2014 to help continue purchasing and installing these improvements.

The safety audits from this past fall determined that creating a Sally Port, a secondary controlled entryway, as the top priority. This would be an additional security measure as the Anderson County Schools purchased and installed camera and remote door lock systems this past summer for the main exterior entrance of each school. The funding from the Bluegrass Pipeline Community Grant will be used to complete the Sally Ports at the elementary schools.

Anderson County Schools also received a second $2,500 grant from the Bluegrass Pipeline to help fund the Eye on Bus Safety Program. These funds will be used to upgrade existing camera systems on district school buses.
