Anderson County Schools Perform Safety Audits

The Anderson County School District, in collaborating with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department, Lawrenceburg Police Department, Anderson County EMS, the Lawrenceburg Fire Department and the Kentucky State Police are conducting safety audits at each school building in the district.  The safety audit includes lock down drills, trainings with school administrators, and a full safety evaluation of each school preformed by local and state law enforcement officers. The goal of this process is to assess each school’s current status of emergency preparedness and to give recommendations for improved safety measures for the students and staff of Anderson County Schools. These recommendations will play a key role as each school reviews and updates their current school safety plan.

“Given that these audits were not announced to the schools before hand, we were impressed with the current procedures already in place and even more impressed with how effective the teachers and staff executed the plans,” reported Deputy Paul Blackhurst with the Anderson County Sheriff’s office. “Many of the recommendations that we are making are already being addressed by school administrators. “

“There is no greater priority than the safety of our students and staff,” said Sheila Mitchell, Superintendent of Anderson County Schools. “While we hope that we never have to apply these tactics, we will make sure that our teachers and staff have the proper training to make proactive, life saving decisions in any given situation.”
