All ACSchools Achieve Highest Accountability Identification in 2017-2018 State Mandated Testing

2018 Assessment & Accountability
Mr. Bobby Murphy, Director of Curriculum and Assessment

As Director of Curriculum and Assessment for Anderson County Schools (“ACS” hereafter), I maintain the responsibility of reporting the status of district performance as it relates to the Kentucky Department of Education’s Accountability System.  This past Monday evening, I presented a report to our local Board of Education, providing necessary background information, an overview of the accountability model as it currently stands, in addition to school data with respect to various performance indicators and measures.  When reporting any information, objectivity and transparency are what should be strived for.  In an effort to promote each of these qualities, I respectfully submit to you, the families and residents of Anderson County, honest and accurate information pertaining to the status of our local education agency’s performance via the full and exact presentation used this past Monday, October 15, 2018.  (click link to presentation below)

Highlighted positive outcomes of performance:

  • - All ACS elementary schools scored above the state average in at least one or more of the three applicable performance indicators
  • - Anderson County High School continues to maintain an impressive graduation rate
  • - All AC schools have been identified as “Other” which is the best overall label attributed to schools by the Kentucky Department of Education during this accountability year

Highlighted areas of growth:

  • - Increasing Proficiency for All Students (improving reading and mathematics performance)
  • - Closing the Achievement Gap (among students qualifying for free/reduced lunch, of minority, and identified under special education in comparison to their commensurate peers)
  • - Cultivating growth for all students (as measured at elementary & middle school levels in reading and mathematics)

Highlighted plan for advancement:

  • - Progressive data teams implementation; using evidence-based practices and making data-based decisions to improve student learning outcomes
  • - Increasing student engagement via Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures
  • - Optimizing student learning via high yield instructional strategies
  • - Coupling relevance (meaningful learning) with high levels of rigor (challenging tasks that elicit intensive thought processes)

Contrary to what some folks may portray as ‘extremely troubling,’ ACS continues to perform well academically while balancing the educational needs of the whole student through character education, community service programs, workforce skills, arts & humanities, as well as athletic programs/opportunities.  #TeamAC #120STRONG
