Juniors and Sophomores:
The PSAT test will be given at ACHS on Saturday October 18th (it's the last Saturday of our Fall Break).  Register using the link provided on the counselor's   webpage. http://www.totalregistration.net/PSAT/181350 Only the first 50 students to register will be able to take the test.

Division of Conservation
Scholarships

The Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts Auxillary sponsors three $1,000 scholarships each year. The George Crafton Scholarship is for graduating high school seniors, the Natural Resource Scholarship is for college students and the Betty Barrick Non-Traditional Scholarship is for college students who are at least 25 years old.

Those applying for the scholarship will need to be qualified young men and women that are interested in agriculture and natural resources fields.

The KACD Auxillary has helped to send numerous young people to the school of their choice with the three scholarships to students interested in careers in agriculture. Educating our youth for tomorrow will be beneficial to all those concerned with the wise use and managment of our natural resources.

State Dept. offers scholarships for high school students to study abroad
The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) offers merit-based scholarships to study one of seven critical foreign languages: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Hindi, Korean, Persian (Tajiki), Russian and Turkish. The NSLI-Y program is designed to immerse participants in the cultural life of the host country, provide formal and informal language practice, and spark a lifetime interest in foreign languages and cultures.  The application deadline for summer 2015 and academic year 2015-16 programs is October 30. Visitwww.nsliforyouth.org for more information.
 
The Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Abroad Program offers merit-based scholarships to spend an academic year in countries that may include Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mali, Morocco, Oman, Philippines, South Africa, Thailand, Tunisia, and Turkey. This program increases understanding between people in the United States and people in countries with significant Muslim populations. Students live with host families, attend local high schools, do community service, and complete a capstone project. Applications for academic year 2015-16 programs are due January 7, 2015. The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program (CBYX) offers merit-based scholarships to spend an academic year in Germany. The program was established in 1983 to celebrate German-American friendship based on common values of democracy. Students live with host families, attend local schools, and participate in community life in Germany. Toyota presents the fourth annual Young Women LEAD Conference in partnership with SOAR and Northern Kentucky University’s College of Education and Human Services.
This conference will be held Tuesday, October 28, with the doors opening at 8:00 AM and the conference ending at 1:30 PM. High school young women are invited to join us for this one-day FREE leadership conference designed to inspire these young women to believe in their qualities and strengths, and to challenge them to believe in a higher level of personal growth and development. 
The conference will feature keynote speaker, Emily Cook, 3X Olympian and 6X National Champion in aerial skiing. In addition to the keynote, RoadTrip Nation will deliver a mini-keynote empowering the students to define their own road in life instead of traveling down someone else's. Registration is limited to the first 1,000 students. Extended School Services:
ESS is offered Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 in the Media Center. Tuesday - Social Studies, Wednesday - Science, and Thursday - Math. If students need to use a computer or just need a quiet place to study, they can do so during this time as well. 
Bearcat 25:
Each day from 9:18 to 9:43, students have 25 minutes of flexible time to work on their specific needs. Their needs may be homework completion, reading, make up quizzes/tests, or tutoring. We have teachers staffing tutoring centers in the Media Center and Computer Lab D on a rotating basis for different subject areas. 
If your student is struggling academically, please encourage them to discuss these options with their teachers, or feel free to email or call the teacher yourself.

Heisman Trophy Award Program Stages

School Winner
One senior male and one senior female from every school will be selected as a School Winner.

1,020 State Finalists
From the School Winners, 20 finalists—10 senior males and 10 senior females—from every state and the District of Columbia will advance to State Finalists.

102 State Winners
From the State Finalists, one senior male and one senior female from each state and the District of Columbia will be selected as State Winners.

12 National Finalists 
The judging panel will select 12 National Finalists from the 102 State Winners. The National Finalists include 1 senior male and 1 senior female from each of the six geographic Heisman regions.

2 National Award Winners
The judging panel will select 1 senior male and 1 senior female from the 12 National Finalists as National Wendy’s High School Heisman Winners.

UK is adding an early action track
December 1 is the new deadline for competitive scholarships, academic scholarships, competitive diversity scholarships, the Honors Program, and early action admissions
An early action track has been added to apply for housing and living learning programs with a deadline of February 15
Enrollment deposit and housing deposit  will be due by May 1.
