SENIORS!!!! We now have the local Scholarship Packet ready for pick up in the guidance office plus a new one that was received after the packets were made (Sportsmen's Scholarship). Each student must come pick up their own copy and sign for it.

***Anyone that did pick up a packet yesterday - please check the Rotary Club Scholarship & make sure it included 4 pages - 2 front & back - IF NOT, come back & get a corrected one - had a problem with a few printing.

NOTE: For past graduates who need to fill out the Anderson County Scholarship again, the scholarship is available on the counselor's website.

AXA Achievement Community Scholarship

The AXA Achievementsm Scholarship in association with U.S. News & World Report provides $670,000 in annual scholarships to young people throughout the nation.

Western Kentucky University's ALIVE Center for Community Partnerships is accepting applications for its fall 2015 class. The Bonner Leader program at WKU is a program designed to assist students, who have experience serving in communities, with the cost of their college education. WKU Bonner students dedicate ten hours a week (300 hours per academic year) of community service and training and enrichment, and they receive Federal Work Study from WKU. Bonner students are also eligible for an additional AmeriCorps Education Award to pay back school loans or save for future education costs.

The Bonner Leader program is targeted at students who are in financial need based on Federal Work Study Requirements. Students who are not eligible for financial aid may have the option of serving as a Bonner Volunteer.

The application deadline is April 15, 2015.

Foot Locker is awarding $20,000 Scholarships to 20 Student Athletes!

v 2015 USDA 1890 National Scholars Program (High school principals are asked to provide this to their guidance counselors.)

The USDA Office of Advocacy & Outreach (OAO) recently released its USDA 1890 National Scholars Program. The National Scholars Program is a major effort of the USDA and nineteen 1890 Historically Black Land-Grant Institutions (HBCUs) to award scholarships to students to attend one of the nineteen 1890 Institutions in any field of study in agriculture, food, natural resource sciences or other related disciplines. The USDA/1890 National Scholars Program will provide full tuition, employment, employment benefits, fees, books, and room and board each year for up to four years to selected students pursuing a bachelor’s degree at the following universities:

• Alabama A&M University

• Alcorn State University

• Central State University, Ohio

• Delaware State University

• Florida A&M University

• Fort Valley State University, Georgia

• Kentucky State University

• Langston University, Oklahoma

• Lincoln University, Missouri

• North Carolina A&T State University

• Prairie View A&M University, Texas

• South Carolina State University

• Southern University, Louisiana

• Tennessee State University

• Tuskegee University, Alabama

• University of Arkansas Pine Bluff

• University of Maryland Eastern Shore

• Virginia State University

• West Virginia State University

Attention Juniors: Murray State University 2015 Commonwealth Honors Academy (CHA).

Next June the CHA will bring together rising high school seniors from Kentucky and Murray State University’s service region for three weeks. We would love for your students to join our interdisciplinary living-learning community on the Murray State campus.

Students selected for the Academy should have a 3.5 GPA (on a four point scale) and an ACT score of 25 (or the equivalent PLAN/PSAT/SAT score).

Students receive:

• 6 HOURS OF UNIVERSITY CREDIT

• an additional 6 hours of free classes during their senior year of high school.

• a $2000 per year housing scholarship at Murray State

The only cost is a one-time $195 tuition-processing fee (waived if the student receives free or reduced student lunch or an ACT fee waiver).

Hello Educators! Do you know a graduating senior who is interested in Engineering? Math? CAD? Building structures or roadways? If so, we have an exceptional scholarship opportunity available! The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet offers two scholarship programs geared toward civil engineering. These scholarships provide money for college, paid summer employment while in school, and full-time employment after college graduation. This opportunity can’t be beat!! Applications are now being accepted and the deadline is March 1. Below you will find a brief description. The Civil Engineering Scholarship Program is for students interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at Western KY University, University of Louisville, or University of Kentucky. Students can also take classes at other Kentucky state colleges/universities, with approved programs, before transferring to WKU, UofL, or UK. Candidates must have an ACT composite score of 24 and maintain a GPA of 2.5 while in college. College Freshmen and Sophomores currently receive $5750 a semester to apply towards tuition, books, etc. Juniors and Seniors receive $6150 a semester. Students are expected to work for the Cabinet upon graduation for each year they received a stipend. This scholarship can be worth over $47,000!

The Civil Engineering Technology Program is for students interested in pursuing an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology at Big Sandy Community & Technical College in Prestonsburg and Blue Grass Community & Technical College in Lexington. (We are currently working on developments to expand this program to western Kentucky.) Candidates must meet the entrance qualifications for the college and maintain a GPA of 2.5. Students receive $2750 a semester, and are expected to work for the Cabinet upon graduation for each year they received a stipend.

Deadline to apply for both programs is March 1.

Enrollment deposit and housing deposit will be due by May 1.

Scholarships

The Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts Auxillary sponsors three $1,000 scholarships each year. The George Crafton Scholarship is for graduating high school seniors, the Natural Resource Scholarship is for college students and the Betty Barrick Non-Traditional Scholarship is for college students who are at least 25 years old.

Those applying for the scholarship will need to be qualified young men and women that are interested in agriculture and natural resources fields.

The KACD Auxillary has helped to send numerous young people to the school of their choice with the three scholarships to students interested in careers in agriculture. Educating our youth for tomorrow will be beneficial to all those concerned with the wise use and managment of our natural resources.

Extended School Services:

ESS is offered Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 in the Media Center. Tuesday - Social Studies, Wednesday - Science, and Thursday - Math. If students need to use a computer or just need a quiet place to study, they can do so during this time as well.

Bearcat 25:

Each day from 9:18 to 9:43, students have 25 minutes of flexible time to work on their specific needs. Their needs may be homework completion, reading, make up quizzes/tests, or tutoring. We have teachers staffing tutoring centers in the Media Center and Computer Lab D on a rotating basis for different subject areas.

If your student is struggling academically, please encourage them to discuss these options with their teachers, or feel free to email or call the teacher yourself.
