The University of Kentucky College of Education has two departmental scholarships for incoming freshmen in Fall of 2016. The first is a $5,000 scholarship for any student from our region and the second is for a Floyd County student, with preference for an Allen Central graduate. The second scholarship pays full tuition to UK.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has two scholarship programs available to Kentuckyresidents:
Ø Civil Engineering Scholarship Program (CESP): The Cabinet will be awarding a limited number of scholarships for the 2016-2017 school year to students attending University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, Western Kentucky University, or Kentucky State University for a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. Scholarships may be awarded to freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior college students. Freshman and sophomore students receive $6,200 per semester, and junior and senior students receive $6,600 per semester toward the completion of a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. The program includes summer and full-time work opportunities. The scholarship application deadline is February 1, 2016, and the recipients will be notified in April.

Ø Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program (CETSP): The Cabinet will be awarding a limited number of scholarships for the 2016-2017 school year for students attending Bluegrass Community & Technical College in Lexington, Kentucky, or Big Sandy Community & Technical College in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, for an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology. Each scholarship student from either of the colleges will receive $3,000 per semester toward the completion of an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology. The Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) has worked with the Cabinet to develop a program that prepares students for work with the Cabinet during summers and upon graduation. The scholarship application deadline is February 1, 2016, and the recipients will be notified in April.

Time for College-Bound Seniors to Fill Out the FAFSA
High school seniors planning to attend college or technical school this fall should fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, also called theFAFSA, as soon as possible.

Apply now! Federal Student Aid has more than $150 billion available to help you pay for school.
The information on the FAFSA determines if students qualify for federal grants and student loans. It also is required to apply for state grants and scholarships. In addition, many colleges use the information to award their own grants and scholarships. Therefore, students should submit the FAFSA even if they feel it is unlikely they will qualify for aid.
The FAFSA asks for information about income, assets and expenses. A formula set by Congress determines eligibility for federal and state aid. If the student is considered a dependent under federal guidelines, both the student and parents must provide financial information. Nearly all students going directly to college from high school are considered dependent.
Some student aid programs have limited money and provide funds on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is important to submit the FAFSA as soon as possible.

Applications for Kentucky Farm Bureau’s college scholarships available now
Louisville, KY (January 6, 2016) – The holiday season may have just come to a close, but Kentucky Farm Bureau (KFB) has one more gift to give to a select number of high school seniors across the state – college scholarships. Later this spring, the KFB Education Foundation will award college scholarships ranging from $400 to $4,000 to 87 high school seniors pursuing a four-year degree.
To be considered, students must complete the application available for download at kyfb.com/scholarships and return the requested material to KFB postmarked by February 29, 2016. Qualifying students will have at least a 3.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) or a minimum 23 ACT score, be the child of a KFB member, and finish high school within the year in which they apply.
KFB also offers four additional scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $3,000. To be considered for these college scholarships, students must meet the varied criteria outlined for each, complete the appropriate downloadable application available atkyfb.com/scholarships and return the requested material to KFB postmarked by April 29, 2016.
“The Foundation’s goal is to assist as many individuals as possible in attaining their educational pursuits,” said Susie Tanner, Coordinator of KFB’s Education Foundation. “Post-secondary education costs continue to rise and Farm Bureau scholarships help defray some of the expenses associated with obtaining a degree. There is no better investment for the organization than to invest in our members and their children.”
KFB’s Education Foundation, created to help Farm Bureau members and their families reach their goal of obtaining post-secondary education, was formed in 1953. During the last 62 years, the Education Foundation has awarded approximately 1,500 college scholarships – worth more than $2.3 million dollars – to both traditional and non-traditional students.

Coalition Launches Student Competition, Targets Paying for College
The Kentucky College & Career Connection (Ky3C) coalition invites middle and high school students to create 30-second Public Service Announcements promoting the idea that there’s more than one way to pay for college.
Challenge winners will have their work produced and broadcast on television and radio stations statewide. Entries must be received by February 1, 2016.
The competition is part of the Kentucky Department of Education’s Student Technology Leadership (STLP) Program and its Digital Products Online Judging competition.
For their projects, students will choose one of five strategies that lower the cost of college: find their career path; fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); get good grades to earn scholarships; get a head start on college classes; and start saving now. There will be winners in each category.
Submissions will be evaluated by judges from across the state, many of whom will be students. Finalists will be announced in February and offered the opportunity to work with media professionals to further develop and finalize their product for broadcast. Winners in each category will be recognized in April at the statewide STLP awards ceremony at Rupp Arena in Lexington.

We are now accepting applications for the 2016 Bluegrass Cellular Scholarship Program, our annual initiative that helps local high school students achieve means for higher education.
This May, we will award 15 one-time scholarships valued at $1,500 each to select graduating seniors who attend high school in our 34-county home-service area. This includes the students attending your school.
Attached, you’ll find scholarship information and applications for your students. The application is also available online at bluegrasscellular.com/about/commitment. Please feel free to copy these documents and pass them along to your students. We will be sending you hard copies of these documents as well.
Also, please note that students are required to receive your signature for verification of academic information, and they must also send copies of their official transcripts with the application. GPAs must be reported in an unweighted format (4.0 scale) to be considered.
The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, April 1, 2016. You will be notified in May if there is a winner from your school so that, if possible, the student can be named in your awards ceremony.

Western Kentucky University's ALIVE Center for Community Partnerships is accepting applications for its fall 2016 inaugural class of Scholars in Service. Scholars in Service (SIS) is a multi-year scholarship program designed to assist Western Kentucky University students (that have a heart for community service) with the cost of their college education. The SIS program provides a leadership model to support the elevation of academic, personal, and professional development.
Scholars in Service receive a scholarship towards their education for participating in community service, professional training, and personal enrichment programs. Students dedicate 130 hour (65 per semester) of their time to service and professional development activities in return for a minimum $1,000 ($500 per semester) scholarship.
The Bonner Leader program is targeted at students who are in financial need based on their Expected Family Contribution. Students who are not eligible for financial aid may have the option of serving in the program without receiving financial assistance.
The application deadline is March 1, 2016.

The Nomination Process
To be eligible to accept an offer of appointment to the Academy, applicants must be nominated by a legally authorized nominating entity. The process of securing a nomination is competitive and lengthy. It is recommended that students begin applying for a nomination at the same time that they are completing their Pre-Candidate Questionnaire.
Read more about Nominations to determine the categories for which your students are eligible, then they should contact their appropriate nominating authority to make their request. Students should request a nomination in all categories for which they are eligible, and do so as early as possible.
The deadlines of nominating sources vary and could be as soon as early September. Regardless of when they initiate their process, nomination's must be received by the Academy no later than January 31. As a reminder, the application processes and deadlines are separate for the nominations processes and deadlines.
During a Student's Junior Year
Junior year is when the application process to the Academy truly begins. Students will start by filling out the Pre-Candidate Questionnaire, which becomes available online March 1 every year and starts the application process.
Between March 1 of their junior year and December 31 of their senior year, they must submit a completed Pre-Candidate Questionnaire. When a student is ready to begin the application, they can visit the Pre-Candidate Questionnaire online.
Between March 1 of their junior year and December 31 of their senior year, they must also request nominations from their state’s congressional representative(s) or other designated nominators.
NOTE: As with any top university, competition for admission to the Academy is extremely high. In addition to applying to the Academy, their college application strategy should include a backup plan. To pursue an interest in the Air Force, they may also wish to request and submit an application for Air Force ROTC.
Who do Students Talk to?
On select dates throughout the year, representatives from the United States Air Force Academy participate in college fairs, visit high schools or speak at community centers across the nation. These events are great opportunities to learn more about what the Academy has to offer.
The majority of our events are held in the fall and spring, with fewer events in the summer months. To learn more about the Academy, check for an event that may be convenient to you and your students.
The United States Air Force Academy strives to create a highly qualified and truly diverse cadet wing at the Academy each year. We are looking to expand our applicant pool across individual characteristics defined by our diversity definition, that include:
Personal life experiences, including having overcome adversity by personal efforts
Geographic background, such as region, rural, suburban, urban
Socioeconomic and educational background, such as academic excellence and/or whether an individual would be a first generation college student
Cultural knowledge and language abilities, with particular emphasis on cultures and languages of strategic importance to the Air Force
Work background, including prior enlisted service
Physical abilities, including athletic prowess
Age, though applicants must be within statutory parameters for academy attendance
In addition to race, ethnicity, and gender. If you have a student who comes from a diverse background in terms of race, ethnicity, or gender, or if their background includes diverse experiences, knowledge or abilities, if they seek an education that is on par with highly selective colleges and universities, and have a desire to service, please have them consider the United States Air Force Academy and become familiar with our application process and admissions requirements. One of our admissions goals is to ensure that students are aware of the opportunities at your United States Air Force Academy. USAFA Admissions hires newly graduated USAF officers responsible to admissions, outreach and mentoring activities. These admissions advisors are dedicated to spreading the word about their Academy experience, education and the opportunities afforded by the United States Air Force Academy.
Summer Programs
Summer Seminar: Summer Seminar offers a unique opportunity to experience the Air Force Academy first-hand. It is specially designed for high school juniors heading into their senior year to get a realistic perspective of cadet life. Students will live in the dormitories, eat at the Academy’s dining facility, explore the various academic/military programs and courses that the Academy has to offer, and participate in a variety of different physical fitness activities (to include a practice CFA). The application is open from 1 December 2015 to 15 January 2016, and it is free to apply. There are two sessions: 12-17 June 2016 and 19-24 June 2016. Student may apply here.
STEM Engineering and Construction Camp: This camp is designed to provide high school students with a world-class experience in STEM skills following a "Build the Design" model. This one week program is supervised and led by engineers and located at the U.S. Air Force Academy. The program runs from 7-13 July 2016. Learn more information or apply now.
Summer Sports Camps: We offer Summer Falcon Sports Camps for student 8 to 18 who want to participate in numerous sports and are led by our very own head coaches! Click here for additional information.
Campus Tours
If you have students who are interested in pursuing an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy and plan to visit the campus, they may wish to participate in an escorted tour and admissions briefing. Offered during the academic year to middle school, high school, and post-high school students, tours can help individuals gain a deeper understanding of the AF Academy environment. Escorted tours are conducted Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays during the academic year. Generally starting the first week of September through mid-May, we require reservations 14 days in advance. We also offer Game Day tours. After the tour participants will be allowed to purchase discounted tickets to cheer on our AF Falcons for football, hockey, and men’s and women’s basketball. My name is Bill Pianovski and I am a Career Track Coordinator in the Kentucky Career Center in Danville. I work under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act helping youth aged 18-24. We are currently trying to build and promote our youth program that focuses on assisting youth with college tuition assistance. We offer Career Track Scholarships covering up to $7,500 per year of the students tuition for 2 years in a high demand field of study. We are trying to get this information out to all graduating or previous students that would qualify. If you could please pass this information on to your students so they may be able to take advantage of this opportunity. Also if you have any school events such as college or career fairs I would be more than happy to attend and have a table set up with information for the students. This is a federally funded program so they are not responsible for any type of repayment. I have attached the program flyer feel free to make copies and hand them out. 2. Maintains a minimum "C" grade average or higher
3. Currently a varsity level athlete in one or more sports
4. A committed follower of Jesus Christ
