Hello,

I wanted to share a great summer learning opportunity with you and your students.  Once again UK College of Engineering will be offering a series of fun and educational workshops covering a variety of engineering topics.  The program is targeted toward young women (rising sophomore-senior) who want to gain exposure to engineering through hands-on activities/projects in a collegiate environment.

I ask that you please share this opportunity with any female students who may want to participate.  There are seven different workshops available and the students can learn more about each one and register for a variety of dates via our website:https://www.engr.uky.edu/admissions/women-in-engineering-summer-workshop-series/.  I have also attached a flyer with the dates and a pamphlet with more detailed information should you wish to post these in your office or school hallway.

Students will attend workshops on UK’s campus throughout June working in engineering labs and learning from engineering faculty and graduate students so this is also a great opportunity for them to see UK!

Don’t hesitate to direct any questions or interested students (and parents) to me (contact information below).  I appreciate all that you do preparing the next generation of students for success!

Best,

Bridget,
The Henry Clay Center for Statesmanship is expanding its National Student Congress events to both high school and college-level students for the first time, in partnership with The Council of State Governments, the University of Kentucky's Martin School of Public Policy and Administration, and Transylvania University.
The week-long programs, held at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky, give students the opportunity to meet with lawmakers, academics, journalists, and civic leaders to discuss the practical importance of compromise, constructive engagement, and dialogue to resolve conflict and competing interests in a democracy. Nationally recognized guest speakers engage in seminars with the students, followed by student debate on current issues in political leadership. Past speakers have included justices of the U.S. Supreme Court, speakers of the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. senators, governors, and other nationally recognized officials and academic thought leaders.
The Student Congress programs are free - including travel and lodging - to those selected. The Center seeks current high school juniors and college juniors with records of exceptional academic and extracurricular achievement from all regions of the country to apply. The high school program will be June 12-18; the college program is June 19-25.
Please forward this email to potential high school and college student applicants. The deadline for application is March 15. For more information, visithttp://www.henryclaycenter.org or contact Dr. Michael Vetter, Executive Director of The Henry Clay Center for Statesmanship, at [email protected].

Kentucky Wesleyan College is hosting an Academic Spotlight and an Open House on Saturday, March 12th.  We will be “spotlighting” four of our most outstanding academic programs – Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Fine Arts and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) beginning at 9:00 a.m.  The Open House begins at 10:30 a.m. with campus tours, the student engagement fair and lunch provided for all attendees.  It will be a great day to show students what distinguishes Kentucky Wesleyan College from other institutions.

You are also personally invited to join us on March 12th.  Please feel free to bring any seniors, juniors, and leaders from your high school who want to know more about what Wesleyan offers.  Please RSVP to me by Tuesday, March 8 with your intentions.

Speaking to an issue that often comes up – affordability - did you know that students who graduate from Wesleyan, on average, have a lower student debt load than many Kentucky public universities?  That’s correct – with a strong financial aid program, sensitivity to need, and matched with the 4-year guarantee, Kentucky Wesleyan College offers a quality education at a superior value.  Would you like more information on our affordability?  Email me at [email protected] and I will send you fast facts via email.

The informational flyer is attached.

Thanks,
Matt

Applications for Kentucky Farm Bureau’s college scholarships available now
Louisville, KY (January 6, 2016) – The holiday season may have just come to a close, but Kentucky Farm Bureau (KFB) has one more gift to give to a select number of high school seniors across the state – college scholarships. Later this spring, the KFB Education Foundation will award college scholarships ranging from $400 to $4,000 to 87 high school seniors pursuing a four-year degree.
To be considered, students must complete the application available for download at kyfb.com/scholarships and return the requested material to KFB postmarked by February 29, 2016. Qualifying students will have at least a 3.5 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) or a minimum 23 ACT score, be the child of a KFB member, and finish high school within the year in which they apply.
KFB also offers four additional scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $3,000. To be considered for these college scholarships, students must meet the varied criteria outlined for each, complete the appropriate downloadable application available atkyfb.com/scholarships and return the requested material to KFB postmarked by April 29, 2016.
“The Foundation’s goal is to assist as many individuals as possible in attaining their educational pursuits,” said Susie Tanner, Coordinator of KFB’s Education Foundation. “Post-secondary education costs continue to rise and Farm Bureau scholarships help defray some of the expenses associated with obtaining a degree. There is no better investment for the organization than to invest in our members and their children.”
KFB’s Education Foundation, created to help Farm Bureau members and their families reach their goal of obtaining post-secondary education, was formed in 1953. During the last 62 years, the Education Foundation has awarded approximately 1,500 college scholarships – worth more than $2.3 million dollars – to both traditional and non-traditional students.
To learn more about these and several other college scholarships offered by Kentucky Farm Bureau, visit kyfb.com/scholarships.
