Gifted and Talented Program
The Anderson County Gifted and Talented program encourages service learning and learning through doing.  As such, we have provided opportunities for students to take part in various community and volunteer opportunities. Students are encouraged to earn at least 10 hours of community service per year. Below you will find a short list of outreach programs and their contact information.

Monthly Opportunities to participate in:
  • Seminars-monthly events will include college seminars, community and guest speakers
  • Advising sessions during scheduling that target a student's area of giftedness
  • Mentoring and leadership opportunities-Shadow Day, Leadership Academy through Mrs. Wells 
  • Field Trips-college visits, leadership conferences, performance based events, etc...
  • Film Events-held after school 
Course Work Services:
  • Performance courses in specific areas of giftedness
  • Honors Independent Study-as seniors, you will have the opportunity to sign up for one Honors Independent Study course as a GT student in an area that isn't normally offered
  • Honors/Pre-AP/Advanced Placement coursework
  • All content areas and electives 
Assistance Provided by ACHS
  • We keep students abreast of current issues and provide grades and progress reports to Gifted and Talented students 
  • We assist students in selecting courses that are rigorous and that will prepare them for the next steps in life
  • We help students find extra-curricular or co-curricular activity to showcase their giftedness 
Classroom Support:
  • We collaborate as a faculty to ensure differentiation and challenges are provided to meet/exceed a student's giftedness
  • We provide supplemental materials that challenge the student in their area of giftedness 
Services offered in the Identified Areas of Gifted and Talented 
  • AP English Literature, AP English Language
  • Extra Curricular Activities-Academic Language Arts Team and Speech Team
  • Literature Circles during Bearcat Reading time-8 groups, 4-8 people per group, all read the same book, members lead weekly discussions, faculty/staff member participates 
  • AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, and all pre AP course work options
  • Elective Classes-Into to College Math, Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, and Immunology
  • Extra Curricular Activities-Academic Team and Green Club 
Fine Arts/Writing:
  • AP Art, AP Music Theory, and AP Spanish
  • Extra Curricular Activities-Academic Team, Humanities, ACT Cats, Dance Team, Art Club, Pep Band, Stimulating Ink, and school plays
  • Performance based classes-Journalism, Creative Writing, Advanced Chorus, Women's Choir, General Chorus, Marching Band, Piano, Guitar, Concert Band, Art, Ceramics, etc... 
General Intellectual:
  • Advanced Placement coursework and vast electives
  • Honor societies and extra curricular-National Spanish Honors Society, The Academy, Foreign Language Festival, Spanish Club, Beta Club, Governor's Cup competition, and Academic Team 
Social Studies:
  • AP Human Geography, AP World History, AP U.S. History, AP European History, AP Macroeconomics, and AP Psychology
  • Class Electives-Sports History, History of Rock and Roll
