Preschool Bearcat Day Project Information

Dear Families,

Anderson County Schools will be implementing a plan for Non Traditional Instructional (NTI) days for snow/cold weather days. These days will also be referred to as Bearcat Days.

This is an opportunity to continue your child’s learning when inclement weather prevents us from safely traveling to school. In the attached document, you will find a variety of engaging activities for you and your child to complete together on NTI days. These are developmentally appropriate activities that focus on literacy, mathematics, fine/gross motor, and social skills.

Please circle the activities you do together and the date they were completed. In addition, we ask families to read at least one book together on each snow day! We have included some reading tips and strategies that may help as you read to your child at home.

All NTI packets should be returned no later than March 27th.

The preschool class with the most returned snow day packets will be rewarded with a party!

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

Bearcub Snow Day Project

A Snow Day Project Overview

This is a family project where students will review and enhance their math, literacy, writing, and social skills. You will find a snow day menu attached to this packet with instructional activities in each area. For each Bearcat snow day that is called by the district your child should complete one math, and one literacy activity (with a total of two activities per snow day).

You and your child should work together to complete these activities. The majority of the activities listed include your child’s reading buddy that was built at school; and can incorporate the books provided with the reading buddy, a book from home, or a book from the library that your child brings home each week.

Included in this packet are the common core standards that we work on in kindergarten for each activity, a snow day menu, a recording log, and a presentation rubric.

Once completed, please record the activity on the recording log. This log, along with one math and one literacy activity should be returned to school by March 27th. Your child will be assessed using the listening and speaking rubric on their presentation of one math and one literacy activity that was completed.

We look forward to seeing your child’s creations and hard work! Feel free to contact us with any questions. We will be available via email or phone on Bearcat Days.
